Quick-start

Oh great, another blog about creativity. Wow, unexpected! Surprising! Outstanding!

Well… yes. This is another blog about that. But bear with me if you can, my dear reader, because I’ll try my best to do something a little different here. There will be no “5 tips to become creative” or “how something is destroying modern creativity”. Though I will eventually talk about some cliché, it will always be to look differently and more critically to them, to spark salutary discussions and seek a better understanding for me and, hopefully, for you.

What I intend with this blog is talk a little bit more about creativity and innovation but on a grounded perspective, especially focusing on creativity for design inside organizations. This comes from my academic works and market experiences, for which I’ve read, thought, discussed, and experienced intensively these themes.

Who the hell does he think he is?

Just to add context, I’ve been working with creativity and innovation since 2014 in my specialization, master, doctorate, workshops, talks, and consulting endeavors. My research revolved around how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to enhance creativity and innovation potential in organization for designing solutions. Therefore, I developed an AI software using Machine Learning (ML) to select adequate Creativity and Innovation Techniques (CITs) based on the team’s design context. The system is able to retrieve the design situation from simple questions to the user and output the CITs it considers to be the best for that case.

What I’ve seen throughout my physical and mental wanderings is that there is A LOT of myths and misunderstandings of what is creativity. Specially when we talk about the role of creativity inside innovation and design. There is much to be understood, deepened, philosophized yet many things I see written seem more like a doctor’s prescription for click bait than real thought out information.

As I come from an academic background, this blog is also a need for me to put out and make available many things that I believe to be secluded or abstract inside academic publications. I see concepts that are well stablished academic-wise but are diffuse and volatile in the market. At the same time, many important things that are being developed in practice outside the academia are being simply neglected by it. Yet, many things that are abstractly discussed inside the academia have no relation whatsoever with any market reality (maybe a part of my research can be put in this last one).

Here we go!

At last, this blog is also a more open way for me to expose some of my wonderings and see if they make any sense. All that I write here is up for discussion and I believe this is what makes talking again about creativity so important. Not in a cliché way of do this and Alas! become creative. But to dialogue and think together about creativity, its processes, its impacts and its still unclear aspects. Feel free, reader, to talk to me, to question me, and to say I’m wrong, because there are no absolute rights. If you are interested in more or want to talk to me more personally, feel free to contact me through lfbotega@gmail.com

Thanks for sticking with me in this first quick-start, and I hope we can untangle a little bit of creativity together. See ya!
